In parallel with the world debut of the new BMW 5 series sedan at the Geneva Motor Show 2010 BMW introduced the concept of future-oriented full-hybrid models in the segment of business-class sedans. In the BMW ActiveHybrid concept 5 Series for the first time proposed a combination of straight six-cylinder BMW engine with electric drive, thus allowing for excellent environmental performance in this segment and the unmatched pleasure of sporty driving.
The drive system is applied in the Concept BMW ActiveHybrid 5 Series, consists of a cylinder petrol 6-cylinder engine with technology TwinPower Turbo, 8-speed automatic gearbox and electric motor. Integration of BMW ActiveHybrid technology in the sedan, had already proved its efficiency for "normal" internal combustion engine, reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust levels more than 10%. At the same time, the electric motor provides the best indicators of dispersal, supporting the petrol engine and enables the development of an impressive momentum for further improvement of sports as a vehicle.
