Odyssey minivans and 68,000 Element SUVs spanning the model years 2007 and 2008 to repair potential issues with brake pedals feeling "soft" and slipping closer to the floor over time.
On the affected models, air can potentially enter the brake control and stability system, causing "soft brake pedal" or "low brake pedal" after a period of months or years, according to the company statement.
"Although not all vehicles being recalled are affected by this issue, we are recalling all possible units to assure all customers that their vehicles will perform correctly," said Honda.
A spokesman for Honda, Chris Martin, said that several crashes, resulting in three minor injuries, had been reported to the National Transportation Highway Safety Administration and were attributed to the brake problem.
Drivers of the affected vehicles will receive formal notice by the end of April and will be asked to come to an authorized dealer to have the brakes adjusted.
The Honda move comes in the wake of Toyota's well-publicized recall of more than 8 million cars around the world and subsequent federal safety investigations. The Toyota recall put brake safety at the forefront of the public consciousness and has prompted the Obama administration to consider making smart braking systems mandatory on new models.
